i recall tom petty talking about recording a song. he mentioned there are some bands who...the longer they play a song...the more it changed. the heartbreakers were not that kind of band, he suggested. but the beatles sure were. that was one of the great things about the anthology albums. you saw a song go (or grow) from infancy...to basic structure...to finished product. john hadn't learned how to sing this song yet. very cool.
