Paul McCartney's son hints at Beatles 2.0

James McCartney, the singer-songwriter son of Paul McCartney, has revealed to the BBC that he and the sons of former Beatles members would be open to forming a new band, The Beatles: The Next Generation.

"I'd be up for it. Sean [Lennon, son of John Lennon] seemed to be into it, Dhani [Harrison, son of George Harrison] seemed to be into it," said McCartney, adding "I'd be happy to do it."

McCartney, 34, explained that the only issue would be getting one of drummer Ringo Starr's sons involved.

"I don't think it's something that [oldest son] Zak [Starkey] wants to do. But maybe [middle son] Jason would want to do it," he explained.

"You'd have to wait and see. The will of God, nature's support, I guess. So yeah, maybe," he added.

McCartney, who is the spitting image of his father, began his musical career with the band Light but has been performing recently under his own name and says he welcomes inevitable comparisons to his famous father.

"I think it's great. It's best for me to embrace it, rather than run away like I used to do," he said.

McCartney will play the Cavern Club in Liverpool, England, Tuesday -- the same club where The Beatles made their name.

And McCartney says he still has hopes of making it as big as his father's band.

"I dreamt of being better than The Beatles. I'm not sure if I can do that," he said. "If anything, I would love to be equal to The Beatles -- but even that's quite tough."
